With the purpose to excavate the pre-Columbian culture of Mexico, I set out on an expedition to the city of thunder ¨El Tajin¨. Located between emerald green forest rises this Wonder that has persisted through time to exhibit an exceptional example of the magnificence and importance of the pre-Hispanic culture of Mexico. El Tajín, which was said to mean “of thunder or lightning bolt”, linked to this name still soars a belief by the Totonac people that originates from this fascinating place, that twelve old thunderstorm deities, known as Tajín, still inhabit the ruins.
So follows the pictures...

Totonacs of El Tajin, Veracruz, preforming the ¨Voladores¨ ritual. |
El Tajin was at its height from the early 9th to the early 13th century. It became the most important center in north-east Mesoamerica after the fall of the Teotihuacan Empire. Its cultural influence extended all along the Gulf and penetrated into the Maya region and the high plateau of central Mexico. |
The architecture, which is unique in Mesoamerica, is characterized by elaborate carved reliefs on the columns and frieze. |
The 'Pyramid of the Niches', a masterpiece of ancient Mexican and American architecture, reveals the astronomical and symbolic significance of the buildings. |
Every adventurer needs ¨The Hat¨ giving that finishing touch to the expedition, rather believe this, than just a simple tourist that cant take the threat of the sun :P |
Until the next voyage.....
