The Art Of Being A Solo Traveler!

With two weeks off, there was only one thing to do! Pack my bags and get out to there to the screaming fun and adventure. Now, being a solo traveler in Mexico is not a problem at all, however being a solo Female traveler can sometimes be received with a ¨¨¨HUH¨¨¨like puzzled face and more so from the locals. The deeply rooted culture here is that no Woman walks alone, let less Dines alone.

Thorough research has led me to find some great ways to escape these cultural patterns, because seldom has Mexico seen a Woman that enjoys to such extend as I do, wondering off on my own!

My tip for dining alone, if you find this difficult on vacation as many single travelers may do: Is to get the table furthest in the restaurant or the table with the view, with your back towards the wall. This really provides a feeling of comfort and safety furthermore giving you the chance to have a extended view to take in your surroundings.

Its all about positioning yourself, and this way I would also have more time before somebody ambushed me with their need for company ;)

Don't go misunderstanding me!! I really love company, however my journey so far shows me that the word ¨Alone¨ is both underestimated and misperceived!

It is truly only in one owns company, The senses speaks and explores with you in dimensions unimagined.

Enhancing both the taste of your Meal and the experience of Traveling alone!
One tends to be more attentive and awake when alone, whereas with company we loose our self in the conversation and before you know it: something beautiful passed by unnoticed or the meal was devoured without even noticing its texture, flavor or color!!!

I leave you with some pictures of my celebratory single vacation and a quote I saw fit in the spirit of this blog.
¨Being solitary is being alone well: being alone luxuriously immersed in doings of your own choice, aware of the fullness of your won presence rather than of the absence of others. Because solitude is an achievement¨.
Alice Koller

First off on my Vacation, I went to see a kindred spirit Sister, I have come to adore and admire to such extend, only measured in birds-songs. Frida Kahlo A-Strong-Fighter-Beautiful-Fragile-Alone-Artist incomparable! She can be found in Coyocan not far from Mexico City. My advise is to take the tourist-buss to Coyocan, go to the Museum and then stroll around and enjoy her hometown until the latest ride back to the city.

Being a passionate lover of the Arts, I treated myself to an art-performance at the University theater of Mexico. The Play was called ¨¨En Blanco¨ meaning (In White).

Moving on with my celebratory vacation I arrived in Isla Mujeres, the Island of Women. This name was given due to female statues and ruins that was found dating back, way back in time

My best tip: is to hire a guide and a golf-car to cruise around the Island. The insight and stories given from a locals point of view is priceless!

Or even better, you can rent a golf-car and go off exploring the Island on your own

Snorkeling was my absolute favorite moment on this trip. I swam in the middle of the sea with many many fishes of amazing, plenty full colors, exchanged looks with a barracuda and hovered over a stingray bigger than me :) Now that is Awesomeness brought to Life :)

I like the idea of being alone and glowing within it! I like the idea of being alone in all aspects of my life. To discover how I am suited for different situation I come across and find my natural rhythm in this great mechanism called Life. And there is no place as Wonderful as the South point in Isla mujeres to immerse oneself in this introspective reflections and findings ;)

Team Mexico bringing it together in Playa de Carmen :)

A whole World out there for you to discover! Tulum in Riviera Maya.

And just when you think You have seen it all, one finds stairs to the heavens!
Here is Synne and I embarking up these stairs In Coba.

Looking down from the top.

The outcome...... A heart filled with joy and more excitement for life!

Until next adventure ;)
