Magnificent and colourful; Puebla & Cholula

A place you MUST visit if you are in Mexico is its fourth largest city, Puebla! It has been named a world heritage site and is famous for its colourful and diverse architecture, beautiful handcrafts, and divine, rich cuisine.

You also find over 70 churches here! A striking one, considered an eight wonder of the world, which is definitely worth a visit is the Church of Santo Domingo (which in accordance to its Baroque style is very over the top).

It's all in the details...
I was completely astounded by this city’s beauty every time I turned a new corner. On the same street you could find over 8 different architectural styles, no lie!

If your time here is limited I would highly recommend you go on the tour buss which takes you around the city in an just an hour and a half. Normally I would prefer different ways of exploring a new city, however this route did not take that long, gives you a good overview of what Puebla has to offer, a brief introduction to its history, and is good for picking out a few places of interest you would want to visit whilst there.

Although we only had three days in Puebla we managed to go for an outing to the nearby city of Cholula, known for the biggest pyramid in the Americas, Tlachihualtepetl. On top of the pyramid you also find the church of Nuestra SeƱora de los Remedios sanctuary. The city itself is just as colorful and dear I say even more charming than Puebla itself. Crafts and souvenirs can also be found here at quite a sympathetic price.

Stop for a snack on your way to the top - seasoned grasshoppers or worms anyone?
