When I had two nights off work before heading to my second dream year location I researched many options for places to drop by. Montreal? New Orleans? Ouahu? Rio de Janeiro? Toronto? California? In the end I choose the option I kept going back to, whose allure I simply couldn’t resist…
There is something magically mystical about New York city. With it’s vastness and grandeur, contrasts, pace and diversity it could easily entertain you for a lifetime. Having seen countless films growing up where histories from past and present (even hypothetical futures) unfold on its streets and suburbs, it felt oddly familiar as well as surreal to find myself in the midst of it all. And I was ready to make my own story there, even if I could only stay for two nights and three(-ish days) – so what would be better than going to the city that doesn’t have time to sleep either?

Welcome to the concrete jungle |
As it happens, one of my closest friends in London is from New York, and though she was not there at the time, she managed to hook me up with a few of her friends. This made the vast task of deciding on what to experience out of the million things on offer a lot easier. Some of the things I ended up exploring were brilliant beer establishments in Brooklyn on a pub crawl, having the tastiest and greasiest burgers I’ve had in my life, exploring MoMA (THE Museum of Modern Art) where to my great surprise there was an exhibition of a favorite artist of mine, drank wine on a rooftop whilst overlooking the Manhattan skyline, took the subway to Gran Central Station, sampled baked goods at Magnolia bakery, wandered through Central Park in search of Strawberry Fields – where I met a musician who strummed some of my favorite Beatles songs on his guitar. I also got guided around Manhattan by foot and subway to see all the major sights! All in all it was a wonderful and hectic couple of days..
