Heraclitus of Ephesus was a Greek philosopher from the city of Ephesus, Ionia. He was famous for his insistence on ever-present change in the universe. He was saying that the only constant thing in the Universe is the change.
Well… my life was always full of changes. Sometimes small, sometimes big, rarely wise, mostly random. The biggest change was in 2011 when I quitted my 2 jobs in Warsaw, took a gap year in my studies and went to Alaska to work in a fish cannery. I remember an interview I had with US council when I was applying for Work & Travel visa.
Council: Where are you going to work?
Me: On Alaska
Council: And what are going to do there?
Me: Food processing.
Council: You meant, fish processing?
Me: Yes, Yes, that’s pretty much the same.
Council: You will feel the difference! ;)
After that I worked in many different companies, visited different countries and met different people. Constant changes. In April 2013 I was looking for new job as my contract for IBM was almost over. I wanted to work in humanitarian aid agencies. I opened LinkedIn and typed ‘Aid’ and to my surprise AidCom appeared. I wanted to help others but instead fate helped me. This is how I became a Dreamer.
This year when my contract with AidCom was almost over I decided to try to stay here longer and I sent my application for another Dream Year. I got a response from my boss that Dream Year, as the name suggest, is only for one year. I was quite sad but life is life so I started to look for something else. Meantime recruitment was getting to the end.
Final Dreamers 3.0 were chosen but in the very last moment one candidate resigned and I got this amazing opportunity to stay here for another round! The same person twice for the Dream Year? First time without change? Well… if you think about that it is actually a change!
I started quoting Heraclitus and I finish quoting him: 'No man ever steps in the same river twice' – You say? ;)
