Making dreams come true on a Helipad in KL

The oil company Petronas has really left a mark on the Kuala Lumpur skyline. Leaving the capital city of Malaysia without a Petronas-selfie would be like going to France without eating a baguette.

Not always easy no get the towers in the picture.

One of the places with the best view of the towers and the rest of the city is the Heli Lounge Bar. A helicopter landing Pad during the day that with some imagination and a lot of deck chairs turns into a popular bar after sunset. From the 36th floor you have to climb some more stairs before you arrive to a round rooftop with no walls or security fences. The first time I really freaked out over lack of walls and fences and at the same time I had some doubts that gravity would do its job up there.

Luckily, a dozen waiters are paying close attention to all of the guests. Especially the ones getting too enthusiastic with their poses and picture taking crossing the marked yellow line a couple of meters from the edge.

After some time in South America I have gotten quite used to being approached by people selling you things. Candy, sunglasses, potatoes, toilet paper, balloons, paintings, fishhooks, and “sexy” underwear - I think I have seen it all. But nothing screams awkward like the red rose that always seems to appear on the worst possible time. When you are having lunch with your boss or run into your friend’s uncle on the street. And even though you are insisting that you don’t need a rose, I cannot count how many times I have ended up with one. Spending a whole night taking care of it trying to figure out how this unwanted flower can be transported around out of respect for my friend.

So when a man approached our table with his arms full of red roses, I was crossing fingers and toes that our two male friends would be smart enough to politely turn down his offer. But no, they didn't
I was just about to take the roses out of my friend’s hands, politely tell them that they didn’t need to buy us any flowers and explain to the man that we were not on a date.

Luckily my friend interrupted me pointing towards the center of the roof. A very nervous man was walking back and forth looking at his hands and in two long lines, people were standing with roses in their hands. We were about to take part of the most important day of a lucky girls life.

To have been (a tiny) part of making this couples dream come true - another amazing experience. May the dreamyear never stop!?!
